Professor HORST SEIDLER, Ph.D. Izabela Šimunović takes the spectator of her paintings to a long-forgotten world of belief - to a world in which the human being lived and held communion with nature, and maintained magic bonds with it. When IZABELA ŠIMUNOVIĆ began her artistic career, she did not know that the man expressed his initial magic experience in the form of the "primitive" cave painting all over the world. She did not know that but she suspected and felt it. The artist confronts us with a dream world, and touches our archetypal string which we felt as long-forgotten. Her paintings overwhelm us and give us an idea about a certain span of time in which nature was not restricted to an environmental secluded place. Her paintings help us to become aware of ourselves as part of nature, and make our return to the era of simplicity and modesty possible. We feel a breath of evolution and our need for finding again a sense of innocence when looking at Izabela's paintings. |
